Designing Your Unique Bridal Gown

Designing Your Unique Bridal Gown

Designing Your Unique Bridal Gown

You've pictured your wedding gown in your mind. You know what color it is, what the fabric feels like, even how the beadwork is arranged. But you've searched every shop and can't find the perfect match. It's time to try something else: a dressmaker.

Not every bridal gown is found on a hanger in a shop. Many women who know what they're searching for find their unique dress in the hands of a seamstress. Surprisingly, you can get exactly what you want for less time, and money, than you might expect.

When most women think of having a seamstress make a dress, they think of the crinkly, brown paper patterns found in drawers at fabric shops. That's definitely not the case, said Sylvia Deabler, seamstress and owner of Bridal Alterations by Sylvia. Dressmakers are far from limited to patterns found in shops.

"Most everything they want do, it's possible to do," said Deabler, who's been a professional dressmaker for 35 years. From intricate beadwork and pearls to fabrics like raw silk, taffeta or satin, an experienced dressmaker can create nearly any design a bride can imagine.

"You can choose a variety of things and have it look exactly the way you want," she said, "versus buying a dress that's already made and you like part of it and you don't like the other part of it."

For discerning brides, being able to choose each element of the most special gown of their lives is an exciting prospect. But before meeting with a seamstress, you should have an idea of what you're looking for.

"Most of them go through the brides books, and they pick out pictures," said Kathy Sawers, a San Antonio dressmaker. "They've got to have some idea of the style they want and the fabric."

Some brides will combine elements of many different gowns they've seen: the collar of one, the train of other, the bodice of a third. With a custom gown, almost anything is possible. But though the possibilities are limitless, warns Sawers, you should be aware of what things are most flattering on you.

To find out what looks great, you should first try on gowns in a bridal shop. Both Sawers and Deabler agree that it's important you know what your gown will probably look like on you before having it made. Once a dress has been custom made, it's too late to change your mind.

But the advantages often outweigh the risks. For brides who need an unusual size, a custom gown is the answer to their prayers and a solution to their budget.

"Some brides are really petite girls and they're afraid to get a size four, because no one will be able to make it fit them," said Deabler. "Some girls are really tall and they have to pay $50 an inch for extra fabric for manufactured gowns. That's a lot of money involved."

Money aside, most brides realize the importance of the gown and want something unique. "They've looked at pictures and they want the neckline and this one and the sleeve of that one," said Sawers. "This is a one-time thing and they want what they want."

A custom made dress also guarantees a perfect fit, since alterations, naturally, are included. "The advantage of having a custom made dress is it fits your body and no one else's," Deabler said.

"It doesn't matter what shape or size you're in," said Barbara Deckert, a professional dressmaker and vice chair of public relations for the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers. There are many things a dressmaker will do to make the dress fit you, and only you, she said. "There are a number of alterations that can't be made retroactively."

And because most professional seamstresses have been making dresses for years - Sawers has been sewing for 20 years, Deckert for 12 - the quality is exquisite. They agree that a custom gown will be better made than a retail dress.

"You put more detail to it, you put more stitches into the material, you put more time into it," said Deabler. "It's a labor of love, instead of a garment put together in a factory. Those go from one hand to another hand. It's not like somebody is working on your dress and putting time. It's more a labor of time than money, when you have a dress custom made."

"I hate to look at rack clothes. A lot of time they're falling apart," said Sawers. "When I put something together, it's put together to stay."

"There's no comparison. Most ready to wear dresses are like disposable dresses," Deckert said. "You can't let them out - there's nothing there."

With quality must come patience, so brides who want an original gown should choose a seamstress and a style long before the wedding. Some dressmakers are able to help brides up to a month or two before the wedding; others, like Deabler, like more time to prepare.

"If they're planning to have a custom made dress, and they're getting married in a year, they should at least consider 9 months, depending the type of dress they want," Deabler said.

Sawers usually needs less time to prepare. "I like to know at least two or three months ahead of time, and get the fabric and get started," she said. On average, both agree that a simple gown can take as little as a week to sew. The more elaborate the dress, however, the longer it will take.

Surprisingly, despite the amount of labor sewing a gown entails, the prices are reasonable. In some cases, having a unique wedding dress made is less expensive than buying retail.

"You're eliminating the middle man," said Deckert, who added that because dressmakers usually work out of their homes, they have a lower overhead than bridal shops. "I'm not saying that you can make a $6,000 dress for $600. But maybe you could make it for $2,000."

Sawers estimates that the average gown she sews costs about $800, but the price varies greatly. Generally, she charges per seam, but intricate handwork, such as beading and motifs, raises the price.
No matter the cost, dressmakers say they put their hearts into the gowns.

"My priority is making sure that they're happy for their day," said Deabler. "I like to see my brides happy. I want them to be happy with they leave, and happy with what I've done for them."

Climate Information - Best Time to Travel

Fall temperatures are quite comfortable into late December, preparing for the usually mild wintertime.  The southern region's cold months often call for just a jacket.  The northern part of the state may receive an occasional bit of snow, as the January and February temperatures sometimes dip just below freezing.  However, spring arrives in late February or early March, and by summer the temperatures are into the mid-90s throughout most of the state.
High & Low Season for travel - Good news, there’s no bad time to visit Alabama.  Spring and fall, certainly, offer the most moderate temperatures, but trying to predict beginning and ending dates to those seasons can be tricky.  However, spring breakers flock to the gulf coast between March and April but the remainder of the state has a lot of other activities to offer, without the college crowds.

Anguilla - General Overview Beach Wedding Planning

It’s amazing that such a small island, approximately 16 miles long, is home to more than 30 stunning and beaches.  The beaches and pleasant climate of Anguilla support the Wall Street Journal’s report that “Americans are flocking to the Caribbean in record numbers this month to get married.  The appeals of the Caribbean are many.  It costs less to combine a wedding and honeymoon in one trip, the settings are magnificent and the distance cuts down on the guest list.”
Restaurants in Anguilla – plentiful and revered by visitors – offer a wide range of cuisine, even for the pickiest of eaters!
Anguilla is a petite, secluded gem of the Caribbean and a perfect location for starting the rest of your lives together.

Most Popular Beaches
Even though Anguilla is very small, it boasts more than 30 spectacular beaches.  All beaches are public beaches; however some can only be accessed by walking through hotels.  The most popular beaches can get crowded, but you'll find the majority to be very tranquil.  There are bars and restaurants aplenty so beach-goers can stroll right from lounge chair to dining chair.
On the west side Anguilla, you'll find the island's finest beaches, lined by the finest resorts.

Traveler Facts

Travel & Transportation – Anguilla is located in the Eastern Caribbean, just one-hour east of Puerto Rico and seven minutes north of Dutch St. Maarten by air; and 20 minutes north from French St. Martin by ferry.

There are a number of options available for getting to Anguilla.  Visitors can fly directly into Anguilla's Wallblake Airport from Puerto Rico, or opt to fly to St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Thomas or St. Kitts and make an easy transfer to Anguilla:

Ferries are a popular way to travel between Anguilla and St. Martin.  No reservations are necessary.  Between 7:30 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., ferries run at approximately 30 minute intervals between Blowing Point, Anguilla and Marigot Bay, St. Martin.  Ferry crossings are $12 each way, plus $3 departure tax.  Last ferries of the day are 6:15 p.m. from Anguilla and 7:00 p.m. from Marigot Bay.

Entry Requirements - A valid passport (with at least 6 months before expiration) is required by all visitors to Anguilla.  Visitors are required to have a return or onward ticket.

Languages Spoken / Official language – English is the official language of Anguilla.

Currency – Eastern Caribbean Dollar is the currency of Anguilla however, U.S. currency widely accepted.  ATMs on Anguilla accept international bank cards.

Tipping – On most Caribbean Islands, gratuities have become a tradition and are expected. Anguilla is a little different than the majority of these islands in that tipping is not required. But like the locals on other Caribbean islands, the income of many of Anguilla's local people is supplemented by the generosity of others.

If you're uncertain about whether or not you should leave a tip for the bellhop or chambermaid, ask hotel management if gratuities are appropriate, or just give in to your giving nature, especially if someone has performed outstanding services during your stay, like carrying all of your extremely heavy luggage to your room.

Like hotels, restaurants in Anguilla also include a 10 percent service charge on your final bill.  Again, it may be unclear whether all of the restaurant employees receive a portion of this charge, so additional tipping is left up to your discretion.  The standard tip for waiters and waitresses is about 15 to 20 percent of the cost of the meal, depending on the quality of the service you received.

Another service you may call upon while vacationing on Anguilla is a taxi cab.  Cab fares are generally reasonable, and for the most part follow set rates.  You driver may also act as your island tour guide and be of great assistance in loading and unloading heavy luggage.  Tipping cab drivers is very common, and the standard amount is usually around 10 percent of the total cab fare.

When planning your vacation to Anguilla, you should consider gratuity and tipping as a part of their travel budgets.  You're not just giving someone a handout; you're providing a supplement to their income and reward for a service well done.  So, while enjoying an amazing escape on the island of Anguilla, remember that good service merits a good tip.

Taxes – While staying at one of Anguilla's hotels or resorts, you should expect to pay an 8 percent government tax as well as a 10 percent service charge, which is usually added to the final bill.
Electricity - 120V 60 Hz; 2 parallel flat prongs

Other (immunizations, health issues) - Travelers aren't required to receive specific vaccinations prior to visiting Anguilla. If visitors are currently taking medications, they need to be sure to bring an adequate supply in clearly labeled original containers.
Be sure to check the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Web site for current travel notices that are in effect.

Marriage Requirements, Licenses & Wedding Information

Climate Information & Best Time for Travel

High & Low Season for travel - The high season for tourists in Anguilla runs from mid-December to mid-April.  Ultra-high season runs the week or two around Christmas and New Year, when prices can more than double.  Rain is heaviest between August and November, so those wanting to avoid both bad weather and high prices might want to schedule their holidays for mid-November to mid-December or in late April or May.

Acapulco is considered Mexico's first resort town and with its array of activities, a visit to this Mexican treasure surely will not disappoint. Considered by many as an ideal romantic setting for a wedding, bride and grooms-to-be can exchange vows on a beach or in a traditional setting of a church. While honeymooning in Acapulco, newlyweds have an assortment of choices of activities from sunbathing on one of the spectacular beaches of Acapulco to deep sea fishing. Acapulco is uniquely located on a semi-circular bay and in addition to amazing beaches, offers an energetic nightlife – ensuring your trip is worthwhile. No matter your preference, Acapulco surely has an activity for you.

Most Popular Beaches
The name Acapulco makes most people think of beautiful beaches. You may be surprised at how many beaches there really are in and around Acapulco. There is such a variety of beaches in Acapulco that no matter the experience you're looking for you're likely to find it.  Some of the more popular beaches are listed below.

Pie de la Cuesta called the "Sunset Beach" because if offers spectacular views of the sunset is one of the more popular beachs.

Playa La Angosta is a small beach located in a small cove opening directly into the Pacific Ocean, not far from La Quebrada (where the cliff divers perform).

Playa Caleta and Playa Caletilla beaches are adjacent and situated in the Peninsula de las Playas section of Acapulco, one of the city's oldest neighborhoods.

Playa Honda and Playa Manzanillo beaches were at one point in Acapulco's history, small but popular beaches.

Playa Tlacopanocha lies along the sea walk and is the closest beach to Plaza Juan Alvarez and Zocalo district.  The waves are very calm making it a most popular spot for families with very small children.

Playa Hornos and Playa Hornitos are both popular beaches, and, once again, they're both just a few feet from Costera Miguel Aleman and easily reached by public bus, taxi or on foot.
Playa Pretil is of the most popular stretches of beachfront in all of Acapulco and is lined with hotels and condominiums.

Playa Condesa is a very cosmopolitan beach that draws an international crowd. It's Acapulco's version of Rio's Playa Ipanema.

Traveler Facts
Travel & Transportation – From the U.S. many airlines now fly to Acapulco year-round.  While in the city, there are many buses and taxi services one can take to get you around.  However, an important mode of transportation is the government subsidized 'Colectivo' cab system.  These cabs cost 10 pesos per person to ride, but they are not private.  The driver will pick up more passengers as long as seats are available, and will transport them to their destination based on first come first serve rules. The colectivos each travel a designated area of the city, the three main ones being Costera, Colosio, Coloso, or a mixture of the three. Coloso cabs mainly travel to old Acapulco. Colosio cabs travel through most of the tourist area of Acapulco. Costera cabs drive up and down the coast of Acapulco, which is where most of the hotels for visitors are, but also includes some of old Acapulco.

The bus system is highly complex, and can be rather confusing to an outsider.  As far as transportation goes, it is the cheapest form other than walking in Acapulco.  The most expensive buses have air conditioning, while the cheaper buses do not.  For tourists, the Acapulco city government has established a system of yellow buses with Acapulco! painted on the side of them.  These buses are not for tourists only, but are certainly the nicest and most uniform of the bus systems. They travel the tourist section of Acapulco, driving up and down the coast.  There are buses with specific routes and destinations, generally written on their windshields or shouted out by a barker riding in the front seat.

Entry Requirements - Traveling to Acapulco, Mexico requires a passport. Passports are required for all U.S. citizens traveling to or from the United States regardless of destination. If you are not a citizen of the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, or most Western European countries, you will need to have a visa.

Upon arrival to Acapulco, you should be issued a tourist card that’s valid for 90 days (which you can extend to 180 days), the price of which is normally included in your airfare. Otherwise it is around USD$20 and can be obtained from immigration officials at your entry point. You will need to state your reason for visiting and should say you are on vacation. Visit Travel-Acapulco for more information.

2. Drink only bottled or boiled water, or carbonated (bubbly) drinks in cans or bottles.  Avoid tap water, fountain drinks, and ice cubes.
3. Do not eat food purchased from street vendors.

There is a very vibrant night life in Acapulco which caters to all comers. Especially during Spring Break, many bars and night clubs sign special contracts with U.S.-based travel companies and cater specifically to the needs of an American crowd, which pay in advance through the travel company (it is open to everyone however). Most clubs are open bar, while the smaller bar establishments are pay on tab (these also tend to have DJ or live music and dancing). Of the American favored clubs, the top three are Palladium, Mandara, and Privado, all located within a mile of each other. These clubs play mostly American music during spring break, with some popular music from México - generally rock, rap, or pop - and lots of Shakira. Music is often live.
There are multiple clubs which tend to cater to the local population as well as visitors from México City and other locations within the country. The two most popular clubs are Salon Q and Ninas, both located on the coast a few blocks apart in the heart of Acapulco.

Most Popular Hotels
Las Brisas Acapulco is an exclusive Resort with spectacular views, set in 110 garden acres on hillside above Acapulco Bay.  Featuring a pink and white color scheme, from buildings to Jeeps to table linens and towels, Las Brisas has been widely copied since it opened in 1957 as a tranquil, adults-only, prestigious retreat.  Celebrities still come occasionally, along with couples seeking romance and privacy, but now Las Brisas resort accepts children, although certain accommodation sections are still reserved for adults. Each morning guests receive a complimentary "Brisas breakfast," (fresh fruit, sweet rolls, and Thermos of coffee) which is quietly slipped into a two-door "magic box" near casitas’ doors, to be retrieved from inside when guests desire.  Guests in Brisas Beach Club rooms and junior suites also receive two glasses of complimentary wine and complimentary hors and d’oeuvres each evening.

Overlooking the famous beaches of Acapulco, the Crowne Plaza Hotel Acapulco offers first class accommodations and great services. Located just minutes from the airport and Acapulco’s city center, Crowne Plaza offers many services. It has both business and recreational facilities for travelers of all types. Hotel rooms are complete with basic amenities including air-conditioning, bathroom, and cable TV.

Grand Mayan Acapulco Resort is located in Punta Diamante, along one half-mile of beach, and the nearest airport is Acapulco-Alvarez International Airport. Local attractions include downtown Acapulco, and water sports. Guest rooms feature air conditioning, purified water, satellite TVs, telephones, voicemail, electronic safes, hairdryers, work desks, irons and ironing boards, ceiling fans, and balconies.

Mayan Palace Acapulco is a sprawling oasis located on Playa Diamante, Acapulco's most desirable beach. The Mayan Palace Acapulco Wyndham is a towering achievement of limitless luxury and endless entertainment. Enjoy postcard views of swaying palm trees and azure seas from every vantage point as you explore all the Mayan Palace Acapulco Wyndham has to offer. Take in the fragrant beauty of exotic tropical gardens, practice your swing at the 18-hole, par-72 golf course, play a casual game of doubles or perfect your serve at one of 12 lighted clay tennis courts, or treat yourself to a massage at the world-class spa. Glide through a fantasy world of waterfalls, slides, and hanging bridges at Aqua Park or swim in the largest pool in the world!

Key West Wedding Dress

Key West Wedding Dress

Key West Wedding Dress

There are thousands of wedding gown fashions to choose from. Brides can choose a wedding gown with traditional embellishments like the bell-shape skirt with lace and a train, or a modern form-fitting wedding gown made of satin and decorated with sequins. Whatever the bride may decide, she will eventually have to visit some type of wedding gown dealer.

Selecting your wedding dress

When you visit the salon of your choice, make sure that you have a clear vision of your wedding's theme. Do not hesitate to let the salon know what you have planned for a budget. Bring magazine clippings of wedding gowns you like, and see if they have those styles or something similar. Keep in mind that with most bridal salons, you get some consultation for free. Take advantage of the advice you receive. The consultant will be able to offer suggestions on fit and style based on your age and body type. A wedding gown may look wonderful in a magazine (and most do), but it may not look good on you. Your consultant will help you find the right gown at the right price. You should visit a bridal salon even if you do not plan on purchasing your wedding gown through one. The advice you receive will more than pay for your time.

The wedding gown costs

Don't purchase a wedding gown that is out of your price range. Bridal gowns can range in price from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Take some time to think about your selection. It may help to sleep on the idea and make a commitment on a different day. Remember that bridal gowns come with many unforeseen expenses. Don't spend all of your allotted money on the gown itself. Save a little for alterations and accessories. Plan to spend approximately 5.5% of your total wedding budget on your wedding gown and accessories.

Get fitted for your wedding dress

When you go to get fitted for your gown, make sure that you bring your mother or maid of honor with you. If neither of these people can be there, take a friend whose opinion you trust. If nothing else, this friend can provide some moral support if you are in doubt. You should plan on at least six months to decide on and fit your wedding gown. It will take at least three months for your order to be placed and your wedding gown to be made by the manufacturer. Then you can plan on three fittings. The first when your wedding gown arrives. The second to correct any mistakes, and the third to verify that everything is perfect. You should expect your wedding gown to be perfect. After all, you will only wear this wedding gown once. If you do not have six months, relax. You can still get everything done in time. It will just cost a little more to rush your order.

Your final fitting should take place a few weeks before your wedding. The last thing you should worry about on your wedding day is whether or not your gown fits. So make sure your wedding gown is ready early. Your salon should hold your gown until the week before your wedding. They are better equipped to store your wedding gown than you will be, and proper storage is essential to prevent your wedding gown from wrinkling.

It would be a good idea to bring your maid of honor to your fittings. She will be able to learn her responsibilities for the wedding day. Sometimes, small emergencies come up right before the wedding is about to begin. Your maid of honor should know your wedding gown, and she should also know how to perform small alterations in a pinch. If your mother would handle this situation better than your maid of honor, you might want her at the fittings as well.

On your wedding day

Your wedding day is going to be very hectic. Allow yourself at least two hours to get ready before your wedding is scheduled to begin. If you are planning to have photographs taken before your ceremony, start getting ready two hours before your session is scheduled to begin. These last few hours are stressful enough, don't add to the stress by running late. Take your time when getting ready, and enjoy the company of those around you. Bring an emergency kit. This kit should have sewing supplies, extra makeup, extra hose, and tissues. You should also bring a pair of comfortable shoes such as flats with you. During the wait before the wedding, you will not want to be running around in heels. Your feet may never forgive you.

Other helpful wedding gown tips

  • This is your special day. Make sure your gown makes you feel like a princess when you put it on. When you look good, you feel good.
  • Wedding gowns tend to run small. You will probably need a wedding gown that is a size or two larger than your normal size.
  • When you go for your fittings, consider wearing a strapless bra. This will help you get a better feeling of how each wedding gown would look during your wedding.
  • Take at least one day to decide on the wedding gown that you would like to purchase. This will help ensure that you make a rational decision.
  • Use a credit card to pay for your wedding gown. Most cards offer some kind of buyer protection services. So if something goes wrong, you may be able to recover some of your losses.
  • Expect to give an initial down deposit of up to 50 percent of the cost of the gown.
  • Be sure to get a written contract with specific information like wedding gown size, color, style, etc.
  • Avoid cash-only brokers. They could turn out to be scam artists!

Planning for a successful Wedding

Planning for a successful Wedding

Planning for a successful Wedding

A wedding is the biggest event most people will ever plan, endure, or enjoy. Many books have been written about Wedding Planning and are filled with innumerable tips.

But, let's tackle this subject bravely as we first declare that if you have never planned a wedding before, do not underestimate how much you will have to spend, and how far ahead of the date you should plan!

  1. Your wedding is a show - this is show business. This may sound crass or insensitive but let's get real. Your obligation is to put on a show that impresses the women, period. Forget about the fathers, the brothers, the uncles, the male business associates invited - plan your wedding specifically for the women planned to be in attendance. Give the women a good show and your wedding will be a success, guaranteed.
  2. There is no specific dollar range that ensures success. You can blow tens of thousands and have a public relations disaster. On the other hand, don't get hysterical about the cost of everything. And these days you are free to talk about having both families help absorb the cost.
  3. It is an axiom that nothing guarantees success, but a lack of planning will guarantee dismal failure. So plan, plan, plan for every detail and put it neatly and legibly on paper.
  4. The more months you have to plan the more options you have for everything, including some room to re-negotiate with certain vendors.
  5. When planning the date consider:
    1. The weather
    2. Whether the most important people have scheduled commitments for that day that they cannot change
    3. Whether some huge event in your town may interfere with traffic patterns around your wedding location or reception
    4. Whether a close by Holiday may make air travel or transportation problematic as far as having people in town on time. For instance, if you live in New Orleans, a wedding in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras is asking for trouble.
  6. If a number of relatives and friends are having to fly in, check with some local hotels or motels as far as a group rate for those dates and let people know right away.
  7. Get specific contracts with your vendors - bands, DJ, florists, caterers, bakery - have everything in writing. And ask for additional costs that could be charged to you such as traveling, over time, sales tax. Insist on all the details in the contract. Be suspicious if your vendor doesn't like this.
  8. When negotiating on a wedding photography package, specify to your photographer that you want a very efficient picture taking schedule. Concentrate on photos. Don't schmooze with the photographer if it distracts them from getting the next shot. Put into the printed schedule when and where the photo sessions are taking place before and after the ceremony. Appeal firmly to the wedding party and relatives you want in the photos to go immediately to these locations so that you don't waste precious time trying to round up everybody scattered all over the property. Your guests are waiting patiently for the photography to be finished. Also, remember that your caterer at the reception hall is depending on you sticking to your schedule to show up so that food will be at its peak.
  9. When planning the ceremony you should certainly try to personalize your ceremony. However, please don't fall into excess: such as three or four voice solos, extended memorized speeches or poems, or singing songs to each other. Your emotions WILL sneak up on you, no matter how calm you are even through a wedding rehearsal the night before. Nine out of 10 couples will blubber uncontrollably at the moment they are under pressure to face each other and perform. Yes, a wedding is a show, but keep it from being your take on Oscar night.
  10. Weigh the cuteness factor versus the unpredictability factor when thinking about using children in the ceremony under the age of five. They have notoriously small attention spans during the boredom of dry clerical recitations.
  11. If you plan to have a friend or relative read a poem or selection during the ceremony please have a rehearsal reading to check for mispronounced words and clarity. And for the love of all, make it short!
  12. Make sure the groom has some involvement in the planning, even if you have utterly no respect for his judgment!
  13. To go with that, enjoy the planning and don't fight with anybody!
  14. Understand that this wedding is also the joining of two entire families. If you are different in religion, background or culture, celebrate each side's uniqueness and emphasize the things in common - love for the bride and groom, for instance.
  15. Tactfully make sure the mothers understand that this is YOUR wedding. If you have reached a sticking point about something that you don't want to do that your mother does, back off and think carefully and as logically as possible. Where possible give in on some detail if it would make you happier to see your mother's satisfaction than to get your own way. But, if it's something that you absolutely have your own heart set on, we encourage you to cry uncontrollably until you get your own way.
  16. For the day of the wedding the bride should have a bag packed for the church and reception that assumes she's staying overnight for two days. An emergency pair of this and that, plus white chalk for touching up smudges on white shirts, blouses, and dresses.
  17. When it comes to a bachelor party or even bachelorette party, discuss your feelings with each other. Agree not to do things that will get you off on the wrong foot with each other. Be sensitive to each other's feelings but not too sensitive to your own. And give each other a little space, a little wiggle room, since both of you may be under some alcoholic influence as you blow off a little steam. Have a sense of humor about each other's night out with the guys or gals.
  18. Save yourself money and don't bring your checkbook to the wedding. Let your vendors know that you will mail them the remainder of the balance after the wedding. Having a checkbook handy may set you up for getting "hustled" for extra expenses while you are in a giddy mood.
  19. Don't plan to leave on your honeymoon immediately. This invites disappointment and ill feelings since both of you will be extremely exhausted right after the wedding. Wait a few days, open gifts, sleep in late, slow down and rest before you pack and take off on your honeymoon.
  20. To wrap up - use patience, plan, plan, write it down, get the details, divide work into teams, compromise where needed, give yourself months and months to organize, and enjoy the planning process itself. And never assume anything, check, and double check for all contingencies and possible snags and emergencies. Plan how you will cope and overcome these if they happen - WHEN they happen
